My nephew is having surgery tomorrow to clean up and fix some of the broken vertebrae in his back. I hope everything goes well.
Apparently he went ARVing  (alternate road vehicle) with his cousin (who was visiting from Winnipeg) in the woods and they were on their way to visit a friend for breakfast when they hit something.  Don't know much more than that.  He says he remembers flying and then he woke up lying in the woods.  He remembered that he was with someone and called out to see if his cousin was alright.  He managed to get his cell phone out and called the police.  His dog had followed them so he told the police that once they were in the woods to call his dog's name and that the dog would bark when he heard his name. That's how they found them.  Thank god the dog followed them!

So, since I need something to keep me pre-occupied, I decided to do a movie meme.

My sister just called me. Long distance and early where she is.  Never a good sign.  And the sound of her voice....

Her son, my nephew, was in an accident. He's been air lifted to the University of Edmonton Trauma Centre.   His spine was severed. He's a paraplegic. And I can't go see him because he's 2 provinces away and I can't afford to the air fare.  I feel so bad for my sister, M is her youngest.

But he's strong, and he's got a strong marriage, and he's got full use of his arms and neck so he'll be fine.

God this sucks

So the past week has been one of those weeks full of mostly down moments.  I've been sick sense Saturday (and it's now Friday night and I'm still sick - although much better now than I was).  I wrote my Child Language Acquisition Exam on Saturday while going through an entire pack of HALLS. I messed up the Essay Question, which was worth 15 marks, to the point that I don't think I even earned one mark for that question.  The only good thing about that Frell up is that I had 58/60 going into that exam, so I will still get a good mark in the class if I do bad on the exam.

I spent most of the week in bed until noon everyday (which may sound like a good/nice thing, but it really isn't that great) and then studying or working on my Japanese Phonology paper for a few hows every day. I have also been watching Stargate Atlantis. I am now on Season 1 episode 10 (I think). I've been reading fan fiction a lot this week too.

The crappy part of being sick is not sleeping well at night. (I mean worse than normal, cause I'm an insomniac at the best of times lol). So I've been going to bed around 1am and getting up around 6 or 7am... and then going back to bed around 8 or 9 and sleeping until noon.. or today I got up at 1pm.

On Tuesday I found out that  a friend of mine had nearly been raped by her (almost) ex-husband. (she's in the process of getting a divorce). I also found out that she had had a miscarriage a few days before that (with her current boyfriend), and that she was still having problems because she never talked to anyone after her sister had killed herself a few months ago.  HOLY FUCKING HELL!   Things are now being taken care of and help is being given.  I have never felt so helpless and angry in all my life!!!

Yesterday my cousin had a miscarriage and I feel so bad that I can't be there to see her and hug her and DO something. Again with the feeling helpless. I really hate feeling helpless. At least her husband is home now. He got home today, so at least she's not alone now.

Last night I went out  for an hour long walk with Donna and Mark around the neighbourhood.  Stopped by Mac's Milk on the way home and picked up some milk and some pancake mix. It's the first time I've been outside all week. It was 23 degrees yesterday and there is still snow on the ground! LOL!  It looks pretty silly with everyone wearing shorts and T-shirts playing in the snow. It's going to be in the 20's all weekend.. by Monday there won't be any snow left at all! (I hope!)

Today I took pity on myself and made pancakes and chocolate chip cookies. I slept until 1pm (well I got up at 7:30 and went back to bed at 10ish). I cleaned my mom's kitchen (which she only noticed after I mentioned it. She's actually told me to tell her when I clean up so she will notice) and did some more work on my paper, and had a nice relaxing day.

Tomorrow I have an orientation meeting for volunteering at the Japanese Pavilion at the Ottawa Tulip Festival that will be held next month!
I can't wait! I'm also supposed to meet a bunch of friends for lunch.

I'm feeling much better today, now all I need is for my voice to come back.

I just finished watching "Ark of Truth".  I stumbled across it completely by accident over at Stage6.com.  I really enjoyed it.  Not going to talk about it, but if you can't wait to see it you can stream it at Stage6.

Now that I've procrastinated half the day away, I really need to get started on homework. My brother is having a house full of people tonight for Dungeons and Dragons, so there won't be a quiet place in the house to study in. I think I better get as much done as I can before people start getting here. lol

I just got home from seeing "The Golden Compass" with Raphael.  I was expecting to like the movie and I was definitely not disappointed.  A lot of people complained about the ending.  I'm guessing that they didn't realize (or care) that the movie is a trilogy.  That means that the movie is only a few chapters long!  The end of the movie ended perfectly if you accept the fact that it isn't the end of the story.  I was very satisfied with the way this movie ended.  I'm just impatient to find out what happens next.  They do a nice lead in to the contents of the next movie so it leaves you wanting more.  I really enjoyed it and so did Raphael.

I went out for breakfast with mom and Eric this morning (around noon),  We went to this new restaurant that just opened today called Kelly's.  It opened up where The Brig used to be.  It's a really nice lay out and the food and service is really good too!  There is even a kids corner with a leather couch and chair in front of a big screen tv that was playing Mickey Mouse's Play House while we were there.  The only complaint we had (well my mom and brother had) was that the chairs are not wide enough.  My mom and brother couldn't fit into the chairs properly because the arm rests are too close together.  They had to sit at the front edge of the chairs.  Any one much bigger than me (size 18ish) would not be able to fit into these chairs.  But the food, service and atmosphere are really nice so they are willing to go back anyways.  We did mention it to the owners and pointed out a few other people who were having the same problem and the owner took it under advisement.  He was really nice. We'll be going back there soon, I'm sure.

The rest of the day was spent thinking about my paper that's due on the 14th. I still don't know what the hell I'm gonna do about it. It's not like I can ask for an extension.  I guess I'm just going to be low on sleep for the next week. oh well.  Thank god it's only one more week of hell. haha.
Thank god there is so many Cameron Mitchel fics for me to read to get my mind off it when I need a break. lol  I'm looking forward to reading some Teal'c/Cameron stories soon.

And now I'm going to bed because I've been up since 8:30 and it's already just about midnight.  And I know that if I stay up much later (like last night when I didn't get to bed until 2am) I am going to have a REALLY hard time getting up for school on Monday! lol

Mom made some weird food thing again.  I haven't eaten all day (and that is completely my fault) and mom has made something that looks....like I don't want to eat it.  It probably tastes fine...except for the cloves she put in it... and I'm hungry so I will eat a little, but wow. It doesn't look very nice to look at.  It's soup (pea soup with vegetables) and left over chicken and pork and seasoning....and cloves...and oatmeal. yup. rolled oats.  To make it think so it isn't soup any more.

So I think I will eat a little (little) bit and then ask mom to drive me somewhere to get food.  Right now I'm wishing I was at Sara's house eating Dairy Queen Ice Cream birthday cake with her and Rob.....ice cream cake sounds so good right now...maybe I'll get mom to take me to Dairy Queen for dinner and I can buy myself some yummy treats. hahaha!  Now there's an idea!  Thanks Sara!

So I had another very unproductive day.  I even took a two hour nap this afternoon.  I plan to work on my paper tonight.  I still haven't heard back from Fumie, which isn't making my paper writing any easier.  Oh well.  I was supposed to go to a party at school today too...should be there right now... couldn't convince myself to go.  Not enough people going to be there that I like to justify the hour and a half bus ride each way to get there.

Well mom is calling me to dinner now.  Time to go bite the bullet.  Hopefully she'll eat fast and we can go to Dairy Queen before her TV shows come on or I'll be out of luck. stupid TV. That's what VCR's were invented for!
