The Long weekend is here, at last!!!  I have no plans for the weekend, I'm just going to stay home and relax!!  I plan to do a workout tonight and on Monday :)  Tomorrow, if it's not raining, I'll go for a run.

Today I went for groceries and now my kitchen is nicely stocked :)  I have kiwis and cherries for snacks, and I've got corn on the cob, and 2 individual packs of mixed veggies (red peppers, zucchini, cabbage, squash, red cabbage and carrots) and a pack of enoki mushrooms. I picked up a pack of chicken and some steaks. no potatos or rice. I'm trying to cut down on carbs, especially since I eat rice every day for lunch at school.

I also got some oatmeal from Kimberly and I've got a bit of brown sugar and some maple syrup and I'm going to try to make some oatmeal for breakfast tomorrow.

I bought meat, veggies, fruit, milk, water, cheese and detergent and I spent $51.26 plus $5 on the cab ride home.  I still need to buy some bread later in the week as I only have enough for 3 days left.  Why is food so expensive?  Junk food is so cheap, but anything good for you is expensive..and people wonder why there are so many overweight people.  A lot of people just can't afford to eat right.   I saw a picture on facebook not too long ago.  the reason why kids are overweight is because it's 99 cents for a hamburger and McDonald's and $3.99 for a salad.  It's cheaper to buy pop than it is to buy milk or juice.  I mean, really?  It really aggravates me.

So, now that I've got that out of my system.. lol  I feel somewhat better.

I eddited a speach for one of the students at one of my schools this week and write letters to students from that same school who had written me letters.  In return for that, the teacher brought me chocolate and cake when he came to pick it all up yesterday.  So now I have junk food that I really want to eat, but really isn't part of my diet.  it's my favourite kind of cake too.  :(  lol

So it's a long weekend and I'm going to indulge in a small bottle of coke with dinner tonight.  I limit myself to one pop a week either Friday night or Saturday.  Not every week, but occasionally.

If you can trust yourself to have a small-ish piece, and leave the rest, do it! One piece of cake won't kill you.

Groceries are the same here... since I started eating really clear, my grocery bill has tripled. I don't know how people afford eating this way if they have families...

It was a small package with 2 slices of cake. You can get them at the convenience stores for about $3. I ate one last night. Junk food lasts forever in my place. I've got easter candy left from last year. I have a whole tonne left from this year. I'm going to put it in my freezer so it will stay good.

Most people don't eat properly. WHen I was growing up my dad was in charge of the kitchen. We had meat, potatos and veggies every day. It was bland food, but it had all the food groups. Friday night was spagehti night and Sunday was either pancakes or home made macarroni and cheese. That was it. After dad died, meals became a free for all and I remember just eating 3 hot dogs, or putting some chicken nuggets in the oven and eating that. Didn't eat well for years!

Now I cook for myself, and I make sure I eat healthy. I use chocolate as a reward for studying and finishing a job, but I don't over eat. One chocolate bar (with sections, like a hershey bar) can last me more than a week. :D I started eating a chocoalte egg more than a month ago and I'm only half way finished it. just 2 or 3 bites at a time and then I put it away.

My weakness is poutine, and other fried foods. But now I only eat out once a week (saturdays) and I almost always go to the ramen shot and have a bowl of veggie ramen (with wakame (seaweed), mushrooms, carrots, cabbage, onions, meat, and half an egg). It fills me up, gets me a good size serving of veggies and only costs about $7. So I think I'm doing alright :) But jacking prices on junk food and lowering prices and healthy food would help a lot of people live healthier lives. definitely!

That ramen sounds amazing!! I'm quite jealous... I too have a huge weakness for fried food, especially just plain fries.

I'm cooking a lot better than I used to, and a lot more, I used to eat prepackaged stuff almost every day, but I quickly learned that cooking myself always has a better result (well most of the time, sometimes I burn things accidentally).

Burning things does happen occasionally...especially if I'm reading while cooking lol. Last night's dinner turned out really well. Steak and veggies. I made enough that I didn't need any potatos or rice as a filler :)

The ramen is delicious. and it's pretty filling too!

oh, french fries are my major weakness! I love fries! especially McDonald's fries...but any fries really are good. And I really love poutine. One of the biggest problems I have here is that everything in Japan calls for rice. THey eat rice with everything...and not even brown rice (which actually has some nutrition), no they eat sticky white rice. Filling, but not much in the way of nutrition. Same goes for pasta. You can't find whole wheat pasta here and finding whole wheat bread is a challenge! I finally found a place that sells 12 grain and I happily pay the $2 a bag (6 slices) to get it. I really have no idea how Japanese people are so damned skinny! THey eat so much junk food and bread and rice! it's nuts! Makes me jelous. lol
