My birthday was awesome!  I had a party with 17 of my friends here in Iwaki.  We went to dinner at Dandelion, which is an Italian restaurant that serves really good pasta and pretty good pizza (One of 2 places in Iwaki that serves Pizza that I really like).  After dinner 12 of us went on to Kareoke for a couple of hours and that was a lot of fun! I even got presents, which I was not expecting! Including a batman pen case, and a batman mug! lol We joked about convincing the kids at school that it is a Canadian tradition to drink our coffee out of the tin pen cases! and to hold our pens in mugs. lol  I haven't tried it out yet.

The birthday stuff went on all weekend. I had dinner with Nami and her daughter on Saturday (turkey, meat pies, poutine and strawberry rubarb pie!) and then went out to lunch with Hayakawa Sensei on Sunday (it was her birthday Sunday).  Monday was also a holiday, so I stayed in and watched the new eps of Doctor Who, season 7!

Just after my birthday the challenge over at Nerd Fitness ended (on the 17th).  It was a 6 week challenge.  I picked 3 health and fitness goals and 1 life goal.  I did well on two of my goals, and failed on the other two.  I did very well with changing my diet over to paleo/primal and with cutting back on pop to just once a week (or not at all if I ate something sweet that week).  However, I failed horribly with the excercise because I got sick from the heat and got an ifection in my foot.  I also only managed about 50% of my life goal which was to study 60 hours for the JLPT.

That being said, I did lose 5kg, which is about 12 pounds.  I'm happy with that.  However, most of my clothes (including my dress pants for work, and my blouses and my shelf-bra tanks) are now too big for me.  Pretty soon I won't be able to wear them and I'm not quite small enough to fit into the stuff in Japanese stores! I need to go down at least another size or possibly 2 before I'll fit into the largest size they have at UniClo. So I'm not sure what to do.  As it is, I can't bend over without showing everyone my cleavage (what little there is of it lol), and that's not very professional...at all.

The next challenge has started over at Nerd Fitness. It started on the 24th, but I just signed up today.  Fortunately I had already figured out my goals, and had started them on time :)  This challenge will end on November 5th.  My new goals are as follows.

1) Dance at least 4 times a week
2) Work on push ups. Try to add one more push up each day I do them.
3) Get at least 7 hours of sleep (8 if I can) a night.

and my life goal
4) pay off the last $600 on my credit card.

Now that it's cooled down quite a bit, I'm enjoying excercising again. I'm almost done learning the various moves for the first dane I'm working on.  Each dance is divided into 3 lessons and I'm done 2 of them now.  I review the previous lessons as my work out and then move onto learning the next section.  I hope to be able to start working on the last part next week :) It's a lot of fun. But it would be more fun if I had more room to move around. Oh well.

on a side note, I've been craving cookies for over a week.  so today I caved in and bought a small pack.  I ate 2 very small cookies and now i think I'm ok. One was chocolate, and one was pumpkin flavoured with chocolate chips.  bite size :)  yum!

Next thing I need to figure out is how to make my own honey garlic sauce for chiken wings.  I'm not into spicey, so I really miss my honey garlic, and the only stuff they have here that is garlic, is steak sauce.  Not really what I want to eat with my chicken wings.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to make a good honey garlic sauce?

So the summer is well on the way to being over now. I'm done working at Costco until the spring. I'm so glad they have that student program so I don't have to worry about finding another summer job again next summer.

School starts on Thursday for me. I have 9 hours of Japanese a week this year.  I have a teaching methodology class and a teaching practicum as well as an English grammar class - Major Structure of English.  The Japanese is all preparation for the Japanese proficiency test in Toronto this December.  It's a three hour test that requires me to fly down to Toronto, stay at a hotel and get myself to York University on a Sunday. If I pass (which I better for the amount of money I'm dishing out to take this frelling test) I will be certified at the second highest level.  The next level up is native speaker level.  That is my eventual goal.

On other news....my mom has a boyfriend.   I haven't seen her this happy since dad died ten years ago.  She's smiling all the time now and laughing at absolutely nothing and everything.  It's a really nice change. I'm happy for her.  And I like him too so that's a bonus.

Tomorrow I'm meeting up with Tricia for dinner at Sushi Kan.  I haven't seen her in a month (which for us is really unusual).  She's asked me for my Farscape DVD's again so she can scape her room mates. I guess I can part with them for a while. lol  it's not like I'll have a lot of time to watch them once school starts this Thursday.

Friday is my b-day party at Boston Pizza...I think there will be about 20 of us partying for the evening.  I'm looking forward to it. Mom is taking me out to a restaurant for my birthday, I get to choose wherever I want. So it's off to Perkins for us.  I've never been there but my friends are all raving about it.  So I figure it's time to check it out.  It's not that close to home which is why I haven't gone yet myself.  But if mom is willing to drive....why not? lol

I turned 25 today.

My big brother Leonard (Len) who is about 36 years older than me (give or take) took me out to breakfast this morning in Manotik.  He took me to this little restaurant called Miller's Oven, that is supposed to be internationally known.  Really good food, and run by volunteers (mostly senior citizens during the week and teenagers help out on weekends).

After breakfast he took me to the Veterans Wall of Remembrance. I had never been to see it before, although I have been wanting to go see it since my brother told me about sending dad's name in with all the paper work. It's a wall that has the names of all (or most) of the veterans that served in the Canadian Military during World War 1 and/or 2.  My dad was a corporal in the Canadian Armed Forces Medical Corps from September 1941 to November 1945.

My brother found a bunch of stuff of my dad's when he was cleaning out his mom's house after she passed away 2 years ago.  He had put it all in a box to go through later. Well he gave me some papers today.  I now have a photo copy of my dad's baptismal certificate (and I now know my grandparent's full names), a letter written to my dad by a high ranking military officer that my dad cared for in the hospital he was working at (the officer had been injured over seas and was sent back to Canada to recover), and I also got his military discharge certificate. My dad was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal.  I hadn't known that.

After that I went back to my brother's house and I fixed up his computer for him.  He's all happy now that he can get online and check his e-mails again. LOL.  I got to play with his cats too.

I spent the afternoon doing homework and then went out to dinner with my brother Eric and 2 of my friends.  We ended up going to Pizza Hut and I had pasta and cherry dessert pizza.  I love that stuff! It's soooo good! lol

Came home and did some more reading...I am so behind on my lj stuff.  I think I'm still stuck back on Sept. 12th.  I feel like I'm living in the past. lol

School only started last week and I'm already neck deep in homework and readings and stuff.  This is going to be another really busy year.  It's already getting crazy and it's just beginning. At least I have some interesting courses and my syntax teacher just came here from California and keeps asking us all these questions about how we do stuff here. LOL it's really funny.  He's an amazing teacher though, the entire class loves him already. lol  He makes the class fun.

I think it's going to be a good year.

I'm a day late, I didn't know ahead of time or I would have posted this earlier!  I know you had to work yesterday so I guess it wasn't a great day, but I hope you had a good birthday.  I'll be callin' ya later Dom!

I hope you had a wonderful day! Make sure you eat a piece of cake for me.
Eric says happy birthday, sidewalks hurt.  You'll have to ask him about that one. It's good! haha.
Love you hun.
