Arrived in Japan
Aug. 1st, 2010 10:26 amI got up at 5:30 this morning and got all my bag together. R slept over last night and came to the airport with me and mom. We needed both cars for the bags. I had three bags to check, one bag was overweight but quite a bit but because I was already paying excess baggage fees the overweight fee was waved.
So I checked three bags then sat down to wait with my mom and R until it was time to go. There were tears, but it wasn't too bad. A cried a lot more than I did. lol
We took a group photo of all the Ottawa JETs, minus one person who was late, then waited for the call to bored the plane.
The flight was long. I watched part of "Diary of a Whimpy Kid", and all of "How to Train Your Dragon" in Japanese on the plane. I finally saw the Time Traveler's Wife. That one was a bit of a tear jerker. I also played a lot of Nintendo DS. At one point, a little more than an hour out from Narita, I had to get up and walk around because my pants imprinted on my legs. Ouch!
Then we got to the airport in Tokyo and there is a list of names on the door and my name is on the list. They lost one of my bags. well, misplaced. It will be delivered to me on Tuesday, which is really cutting it close! I packed all my Canadian souveneirs in one bag, all my casual clothes and presents and meds and stuff in another bag, and all my business clothes, sleeping stuff, (pjs, pillow) and pretty much whatever I thought I'd need for the orientation in another bag (including medical certificates and paper work). Guess which bag got misplaced.
yeah. the IMPORTANT one! So I have one (1) pair of underwear aside from the one I wore on the plane, 3 pairs of socks, and NO business clothes what so ever!
terrific.
My suitcase will be brought to the hotel before I have to leave on Wednesday so I will have my suit to wear then, thankfully. But I'll be doing laundry in the bathroom sink in the morning.
So travel time from my house to Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan was 24 hours. Not too bad. :)
Jaime was waiting for me in the lobby and we dropped stuff off in my room (that I'm sharing with two other Ottawa JETs, and then went wandering around Shinjuku looking for a place that was still open serving food (it was 9pm by the time we got to the station and most places closed at 9). We found a shop open until 11 and ate some really good food followed by the best parfait I've have in years! lol well...since the last time I was here, really.
Now I'm off to bed. Have to be up early tomorrow! 6am wake up call...frell. It's already almost 11:30pm. Good thing the 7/11 has Red Bull.
Take care everyone!
